RootsBid is Going to RootsTech

We are excited to meet many of our RootsBid Community at this year’s upcoming RootsTech Conference February 3-6, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah! The RootsBid team has been busy preparing to bring you the best in new information, and to help you overcome your most difficult genealogy problems.

If you have not registered for RootsTech yet, there’s still time! You can register online until February 2. The prices vary for a one-day pass, a three-day pass, and the entire conference pass. If you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you can also participate for free on “Family Discovery Day” being held Saturday.

As a registered attendee of RootsTech 2016, you have access to many neat online helps and even the RootsTech app for your smartphone.

What should you do first? After you have registered online, I suggest the next thing you do is create your own class schedule. From the RootsTech homepage, you can click on “Schedule” at the top. You will login and be directed to your dashboard. Here, you can view each class time, title, and description, and set up and print your schedule.

To make your own schedule, click “Browse and Search” on the left. You can scroll through all the class options. However, if you look again to the left of this new page, you can view the classes by “day.” I chose to go day-by-day.

To the right of each class title, you will notice the words “Scheduling Options.” Click the arrow, and the time and location of the class will appear. If you want to add it to your schedule, simply click on the “+.” It is easy to change your mind as well by clicking the minus sign.

RootsBid is offering a class session entitled “Overcoming Genealogy Roadblocks by Crowdsourcing with RootsBid” on both Thursday and Friday. The Thursday class is offered at 11:00 A.M. in room 155 E, and the Friday class is offered at 1:30 P.M. in room 255 B. This presentation will be given by myself and Dr. James Jacob of the University of Pittsburgh.

Our class will be both informative and fun! I can make that promise because I cannot talk about genealogy without having FUN! We will share examples of how to use RootsBid for your biggest genealogy brick walls, how to help others with their projects, ways to fund and support your genealogy education, and exciting news about our affiliate partnerships.

Once you have finished creating your schedule of classes, you can click “print.”

Don’t forget to schedule some time for the Expo Hall. You will want to wear comfortable walking shoes as you visit row-upon-row of the top genealogy companies and vendors in the world. Stop by and visit us at the RootsBid booth, too! We are near FamilySearch, so we are easy to find.

The RootsBid booth will be offering help with registering and posting a project to RootsBid, information about our affiliate partnerships, and a chance to win an iPad mini!

Since there are so many wonderful things to see in the Expo Hall, you may want to make a list of your “must see.” RootsTech.org has a list of all the exhibitors in the Expo Hall. Some favorites might include the Family Discovery Zone, the Demo Theater, the Media Hub, and of course, RootsBid!

By downloading the free RootsTech app for your smartphone, you can create a list of your favorite exhibitors. You will also have your schedule, contacts, maps, and more, all at your fingertips. It is a “must-have” in my book.

To make your exhibitor list, open the RootsTech app on your phone. Tap on “Exhibitors.” You will have a list of all those in the Expo Hall. Now, tap on the exhibitor you want to see. You will then be directed to their “page.” At the bottom, tap the star icon to label it a favorite. You will also notice the number of their location. This will help you find them in the sea of booths.

The app also includes a “News and Social” function which you can use now to view all the Tweets, Facebook posts, and YouTube videos being posted about RootsTech. You can participate by tweeting and posting about your pre-RootsTech activities by including the hashtag #RootsTech. Continue to tweet and post away during and after this awesome event.

Conclusion

We look forward to meeting and talking with you. Please stop by our booth and attend one of our lectures. Our RootsBid team has new information and help to support you with your genealogy roadblocks anywhere in the world. See you there!
